Improvising Antiphony is the second iteration to ‘I Know You Intimately, and You Know Me Not At All’.
Improvising Antiphony, an exhibition hosted at Chelsea Space and curated by MA Curating and Collections students from Chelsea College of Arts, UAL, highlights the work and far-reaching impact of experimental musician Lindsay Cooper. This archival display delves into Cooper’s use of improvisation as a means to foster antiphonal exchanges between performers and audiences, exploring collaborative practices within sonic and feminist movements. Inspired by the essence of improvisation, Improvising Antiphony invites visitors to engage by listening, feeling, and responding to the sounds of a generation of women influenced by Cooper. The exhibition features photographs, documents, and audio materials from the Lindsay Cooper Archive, housed at the University of the Arts London Archives and Special Collections Centre. It coincides with the Women in Revolt! Radical Acts, Contemporary Resonances conference at Tate Britain.
